It's a massive blow to us and to somebody who seems a genuinely good human being. The lower league dog end who did it to him should be banned for months. While Coleman deserves all the goodwill towards him McCarthy certainly does not. Time and time again this season he has picked his chosen country, seems Scottish to me, over us and made rash decisions regarding his fitness. As far as I'm concerned he should be shown the door at the end of the season and hopefully his next part time club team can understand where his loyalties lie. We now head to 'Big Standfield' without at least two players for a task that was already a tough one. We cannot allow it to become the new Elland Road. It has already been far too long since we took the three points from the place, as usual we will probably bottle it and worse Liverpool sides have beaten us than the October champions we face on Saturday. All we can do is give it a go and not be as overawed as we usually seem to be there. Let's keep the faith and keep on keeping on. 2LEE MOLTON (St Helens): We need to take the game to Reds 3It has been a bad week for Everton players with Seamus Coleman and Ramiro Funes Mori picking up injuries. Coleman’s injury was a terrible one and all our sympathies go out to him, it will be a long road back to recovery for him. He is a very fit lad though and will come back next season ready to play for the Blues again. There was great news concerning the purchase of the Bramley Moore site for a new ground. We could finally have a new ground on the Banks of the Royal Blue Mersey. It will regenerate the area and could be the platform for Everton to challenge for the Champions League places. There is a long way to go but the first hurdle has been cleared and we can now all look forward. 4There is another Merseyside Derby looming – can the Blues finally win over there? I want us to take the game to them and not lie down like in previous seasons. We need to do our talking on the pitch and not in needless interviews this week. We have the players to hurt them and if we give the ball to Lukaku he will score. Let’s hope the Blue side of the city is smiling on Saturday night! CONNOR O'NEILL (City Centre): Board deserve credit for stadium plans Has there ever been a bigger week for Everton than last week? Despite not even kicking a ball the Blues announced the news we've all waited so long to hear: a new ground on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey. The stuff of dreams is slowly turning into a reality. This an opportunity that the club simply can not miss out on. Fair play also to the board for their part. I'm quick to criticise like the rest, but they certainly deserve credit for this. Granted though, we've been here before, and things have gone West when it came to the crunch, but this time, things seem to be different. While there will be great sadness when the time comes to go our separate ways from the Grand Old Lady, it's time to lose the sentiment and become realistic. We need this stadium to kick on and get ourselves back among the elite of European football. 5What a dreadful international week that was for Evertonians with James McCarthy and Ramiro Fumes Mori both picking up knocks while Seamus Coleman's season came to an abrupt end. 6Make no mistake about, the tackle on Coleman was horrific and all the talk that followed afterwards about Neil Taylor "not being that type of player" was a load of rubbish in my opinion. Taylor knew exactly what he was doing. While he may not have intended to cause so much damage, to lunge as reckless as that, is sadly only ever going to end in one way. And it's the way we witnessed on Friday night. This Saturday sees us head over the park. I've lost belief and hope when it comes to Everton at Anfield. 7However, I hope under Ronald Koeman our mentality has at least changed. Too many times we looked defeated before even getting off the bus at Anfield. But with the Dutchman having played so many big games in his career, here's hoping he can at least inspire a change in our mentality. SAM CARROLL (Walton): Does anyone have Tony Hibbert's number? Ah, the international break. The miserable weekend without Jeff Stelling screaming wildly about last minute goals at Hartlepool, the crushing feeling of a last minute goal destroying your accumulator and the cold, painful nights without Match of the Day. That is what the international break constitutes for the supporters of nineteen Premier League clubs this weekend. For Evertonians, the pain was compounded just a little more. Ross Barkley was left on the bench for the seventh consecutive game that he’s been selected by England while Gerard Deulofeu continued his unprecedented return to form since his move to Italy by scoring in just his second appearance for the full Spanish national team. 8Oh, and Ramiro Funes Mori was carried off on a stretcher for Argentina while James McCarthy aggravated a hamstring injury and Seamus Coleman suffered a horrific leg break that will surely keep him out for the remainder of this season and beyond. And in many ways, I can’t believe we didn’t all see it coming. This is Everton after all. While we’re in some of the best form in recent memory, things had to come to a halt somewhere, and the international break has cruelly swept in like an unexpected tsunami wave on a clear day. Now Koeman has some serious planning to do as he figures out how to safely navigate the ship to at least seventh place come the end of the season. Having two defenders stretchered off in the space of a week before a Merseyside derby is remarkably bad luck, and McCarthy’s decision to try and face Wales seems even more inexplicable now, especially considering he could have potentially filled in at right-wing back is Koeman was to deploy a five in defence formation. So now the pre-Anfield confidence that was beginning to seep ever so slightly into the Everton psyche has been blown back over towards the other side of Stanley Park. It is only after these three injuries that you realise why squad depth is so important in modern football, and why the summer transfer window will be important not just to try and find first-team superstars, but also to find players who can do a dependable job when called upon. Does anybody have Tony Hibbert’s number? As the American author William Feather once said, "Most of us regard good luck as our right and bad luck as a betrayal of that right." It is true that the good fortune Everton have had in the past twelve months - a new owner, a new manager and a new stadium in the pipeline as well as a good season so far- has pretty much been taken as our right. Anfield and Old Trafford are difficult stadiums to visit with your best eleven on the field, so the absence of McCarthy, Funes Mori and of course our sixty grand Seamus will no doubt make these games even greater obstacles. But let us not see it as a betrayal of our right to good luck, and do our best to put a smile on Coleman’s face at home. If we battle through this tough period, I have no doubt we’ll be rewarded in greater good fortune in the coming years.
