What a farewell for Podolski. Fairytales do not get better. It was harsh on England and Podolski was substituted to an incredible standing ovation. The German fans were magnificent. Sadly some of the England fans let themselves down with their nasty, sickening chants about World War II. On the day when terror gripped London, it seemed particularly inappropriate. It was a shame on a good night for England. We had enough failings of the Golden Generation. The Southgate era has started well even if it ended with a familiar result against the Germans. But plenty of hope for the future and if England can build that around Alli and Co then we might be in for an exciting few years ahead.

Tottenham granted permission to play 27 home games at Wembley

Tottenham could yet stay at their current ground next season and play home games at Wembley in 2018-19, before moving into the new stadium for the 2019-20 campaign.
