Chelsea in ‘pole position’ to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton this summer, according to a report from Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph. Manchester City have copped a £35,000 fine for failing to control their players. The sanction comes after the recent 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on March 19 which saw the visitors awarded a penalty in the 50th minute. It is the second £35,000 fine for City this after they were penalised for a similar offence against Chelsea on December 3.

Mamadou Sakho may not be wanted by Liverpool but there are clubs showing significant interest in the player. Southampton, who were heavily linked in January, and Italian club Napoli are believed to be eyeing the 27-year-old French centre-back. The Eagles paid a £2m loan fee for Sakho but Sam Allardyce's club have no option or obligation to make the temporary move a permanent one.
